Searing Obituaries

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

From time to time obituaries of Searings appear in my Google searches.  I have added this catagory to make such items a matter of record in this blog.  Obviously this is my choice, and I am happy to remove any posting that a family member or relative deems inappropriate.  I hope this will be a repository of honor and respect.

Blogging the Blog – 12

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Thanksgiving seems an appropriate time to give thanks for and to both my own and the extended Searing family.   I hope you were all able to spend some time with family no matter if in person, by phone, or through emails.  A couple of new Searings have ‘checked in’ since my last admin post several months ago, and the membership in My Last Name is Searing on Facebook has added several new members as well.  I have added some more internet entries, and done some genealogy work on my own branch, which I will post here shortly.  Researching and plotting just the decendants from my own paternal great-grandfather Edward Searing was a lot of fun.  Most I knew or knew of…some I didn’t.  I’m going to continue trying for an occasional contact with them.  My brother Stan and I did go to a mini-family reunion in mid-October with cousins and decendants of my paternal grandfather.  I borrowed a lot of family photos and will see if I can post some on the blog.  We all had a lot of fun going over old family photos and papers we brought.   I highly recommend comparing notes/stories/pictures with siblings/aunts/uncles/cousins/parents…especially the latter.  I wish I had asked mine a lot more about family history and stories.  Watch this space…I’m going to try to post more frequent updates…and if you find us through searching the web, please comment on an article or ‘check in’ and let’s talk!  Dan

Another experiment in posting as many items in the blog as possible in the least amount of time…this is a summary of October items on the internet mentioning Searings, with (usually) the most recent items first. working backwards through the month:                                                    This is a great ‘Searing’ item on the internet, published at HamptonRoads.com, on October 27, 2008, featuring John Searing as a tester for the best Reuben sandwich spot in the South Hampton Roads area.  John was chosen as one of several testers from 40 applicants to rate Reubens at four spots nominated by readers.  The article is accompanied by a video, and can be found at  http://hamptonroads.com/2008/10/taste-test-mighty-mighty-reuben

Susan Rife in the HeraldTribune.com did an article October 10, 2008 on the Egyptian artifact collection at the Ulla R. and Arthur F. Searing wing at the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, FL, through January 11, 2009.  The wing is mentioned elsewhere in this blog.

Adam Searingdirector of the NC Health Access Coalition at the NC Justice Center, received several internet mentions during the month, addressing North Carolina health care issues. See Citizen-Times.com, Ashville, NC, on October 9, 2008  He’s also quoted in the SunNews MyrtleBeachOnLine around the same time.  He’s also quoted in the New Health Dialogue blog on October 12, 2008.  Also in the Progressive Pulse for October 14, and 15th, 23rd, 2008, and IndyWeek.com for October 15.  Also in the CharlotteObserver.com on October 27, 2008

On October 6, 2008 an undated (approximately Sept 1935) PDF of an old Fulton County newspaper (from Fultonhistory.com)  popped up in a Google search:”Cayuga Estates  A decree was granted by Special Surrogate Leonard H. Searings on eBay – September 2008

Several Searing items have surfaced recently.  A 1994 Dennis Searing pool cue was offered and bid up to $2855.00, but failed to meet the reserve!   And on September 22 The Land of Rip Van Winkle, A Tour Through the Romantic Parts of the Catskills, 1884, by AEP Searing was offered and at the last minute was bid up and sold at $16.01.  Still a good buy for someone.
