More September Searings on the Internet

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

From the Alliance News Headlines, Sept 19, 2008:

One week after Hurricane Ike ravaged the Texas and Louisiana coastlines, Alliance first responders have visited several C&MA churches. Southwestern District superintendent Mark Searing commissioned Chaplain Paul Northcutt, who is a full-time police chaplain and the district’s emergency response “go-to guy,” and his wife, Blossom, into hurricane affected areas with Alliance churches.

Adam Searing is writing again on North Carolina health issues.  See the Progressive Pulse under the blogroll sidebar.  He can also be seen on YouTube.

From The Alliance News Headlines, Sept 15, 2008:

Hurricane Ike may have devastated the Texas landscape but not Alliance family members who rode out the storm. The following is a report from Mark Searing, Southwestern district superintendent.

From the Times of Trenton (NJ) of September 13, 2008, by Chris Sturgis

HIGHTSTOWN — The former Minute Maid property has been rezoned to highway-commercial despite a request from the site’s owner that it stay zoned for industrial uses to keep more development options open.

There were no votes against the rezoning in Monday’s action, but planning board member Bill Searing abstained and members Warren Olsen and Fred Monferrat were absent.

Genealogy Notes

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

I will post, under the above topic, occasional notes, sites that have turned up on Google “Searing” searches, inquiries, and individual names that I run across.  Broader or more detailed postings will have a more descriptive title.

From an inquiry that showed up through Google about a Sarah Searing, NY, b. 1804 (originally posted in May, 2000, so the responses are very dated)

September Finds

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

The Aspen Times Weekly,  9/6/2008, in a long (and good) article by Katie Redding, Minding the Gap, the opening sentences contain a teacher Searing:

ASPEN — In Dee Searing’s writing class at Aspen Elementary School, nobody has to sit in their seats. And students never have to write about what they did on their summer vacation.  (emphasis added)

Instead, they’re allowed to write about cartoons and adventures, to draw pictures before they write, and to lie on a bright pastel rug if it helps them come up with better words.   (Google for the rest of the article)

Dee Searing is also mentioned as the ‘elementary school’s writing specialist’ in an other piece by Ms Redding on Sept 18, 2008

Fishing is a sport, right?

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

A post near to my heart, as I still do fish occasionally – from the blog Preserve our Watershed, at:  http://preserveourwatershed.blogspot.com/2008/09/results-for-final-tuesday-night.html     celebrating Searings in a fishing tournament in PA

While the fishing hasn’t been great overall, there were still some nice bass at the end of last night’s final competition. Out of 13 boats, first place went to the team of Russell and Russell with 2 fish weighing in at 9.05 total lbs. Second place went to Newton and Newton for 3 fish totaling 7.58 lbs. Lunker (the heaviest fish) went to Searing and Searing for their bass weighing 4.32 lbs. The BIG BAG of the Year Prize of some really nice gear went to the team of Searing and Padden for their catch on the very first night of the Tournament (total weight 13.88lbs). Congratulations to all! (emphasis added)

Blogging the Blog -10

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Tonight I have added a new feature: Searings on the Internet.  This category is designed to find and post publicly available news/feature articles that show up on the internet…thanks to a Google search for ‘Searings’.  I’ve been experimenting with the collection for a while, and will try to catch up with posts.  I will attempt to post enough information so readers can get the gist of the Searing mention, and search for the article themselves if they are interested in more details.  I would love to hear from the Searing subjects of the articles, and will try to find them if their emails are available.  If you know any of the persons mentioned, please have them contact me, if they wish.  I have been a little disappointed in not finding more Searing weddings, obits, and news articles.  Obviously most of the ‘finds’ are the word searing as a part of speech (see my page on that subject).  Again, the lack of stories may be because there aren’t that many of us going through important life events that are publicly reported.  As always, suggestions for stories, features, categories, etc., are welcome!
